On this course I will be improving/developing my knowledge and understanding and practical skills of art in these subjects: Painting, sculpture, (Alternative Media: video and photography), printmaking and art theory. I properly start on the timetabled sessions tomorrow. It's lovely that I get Monday's off, although that's for 'Self directed studies', but that just means I can do art at home instead of going into uni to do it. I'm back at the place I studied my foundation degree, so I already knew all of the tutors there and I had recognized some of the 2nd BA students.
There are about 8 (including me) 1st year students in our studio, the studio is shared with the 2nd and 3rd years of BA, so they got the bigger space for now. Got my own little studio space, not fully set up yet!.
It's always great meeting new people. I was a little bit nervous at first the night before meeting everyone. Though it all went well, we were asked to introduce ourselves and say our favourite part of the holidays. All I did the entire holiday was stay indoors and create art everyday, that was my favourite part!
In that same week. A trip to the London gallery Tate Modern was arranged. I usually travelled with friends there, so for the first time ever, I travelled on my own and took a 2 hour bus journey there. You may ask why I took the bus, well I was being a cheapskate as still have my free travel oyster card until the 30th Sep 2013 and plus I wasn't too sure how to get there by train and what lines to change to. So I got to the Tate Modern gallery and half of the exhibitions were temporarily closed due to a lighting failure. So, I saw what I could and then stood on the balcony to get a brief pencil sketch on-looking St Paul's Cathedral.
My phone battery run out half way through looking around, I had very little way of getting home. It was pouring down with rain. I walked the streets of London for 40 minutes for the right bus stop. That very day I ended up getting the flu and have just recovered after 4 days.
Getting to more of a positive note! I got my first DSLR camera. The pictures look amazing compared to my compact digital camera. This DSLR camera is great for my art products as it's 24 Megapixels. I will be uploading some photography that I took with it on the first day, last Saturday, to be honest, I'm not that good with it yet, it feels tricky, but I'm researching a lot about the lenses and the camera exposures. That's all that's happened for now. Thanks for reading!
